Safer Cannabis: a plant containing more than one hundred active compounds

Cannabis sativa plant contains more than 120 cannabinoid compounds and more than 440 additional compounds, mainly terpenoids. These compounds produce a large variety of pharmacological responses in the central nervous system and peripheral tissues. The final effect of consuming cannabis will depend on the proportional content of these compounds in the plant, which are sometimes able to produce opposite pharmacological effects.
