In search of protective factors against burnout in Addictive Behaviors and Dependencies HCWs at Portuguese North Region
Several studies devoted their attention to the impact of burnout among healthcare professionals. For example, Barello and colleagues (2020) studied the dimensions of burnout among frontline professionals in Italy. In Portugal, Duarte and colleagues (2020) assessed burnout levels among healthcare workers, confronting high levels of stress and depression, related to higher burnout levels. Simultaneously, it is important to know protective factors. The concept of engagement precisely accounts for the degree of involvement with work and can be seen as a protective factor against burnout. It comprises several dimensions such as vigor, dedication, and absorption (Schaufeli & Bakker, 2003; Sinval et al., 2018).
The present study aims to monitor burnout levels among healthcare professionals in CAD responses in the North of Portugal and situate them concerning dimensions of engagement, depression, anxiety, and thoughts of turnover, as well as some independent variables such as gender, literary qualifications, years of service, profession, dependents, absenteeism, among others, resulting from the application of a set of questionnaires administered between September and October 2023.
The results were subject to statistical analysis using SPSS V. 28.0, using statistical inference and regression techniques.
