About
M. Blanchette has held various positions, including outreach worker and social worker, and is currently a professor of social work at the University of Quebec in Abitibi-Témiscamingue. Since the beginning of his career, he has worked with people who experience difficulties with substance use and sexuality and with gay, bisexual and other men having sex with men (gbMSM) who have sexualized substance use practices. Blanchette has expertise in substance use and sexuality, including HIV, and has experience in participatory and community-based studies. His research focuses on the links between substance use and sexuality, sexual and gender diversity, and the development of innovative intervention practices. He is a co-researcher in many studies related to substance use and sexual health well-being. More specifically, he leads two projects related to substance use and sexual health. The first aims to elaborate a best practice guideline for people who intervene with gbMSM that has sexualized substance use practices, and the second seeks to map the needs of healthcare professionals regarding sexual and gender diversity communities to make recommendations that could lead to the development of new policies.
