Ecological momentary assessment of substance use (consequences) among ecstasy users
Abstract
Most substance users in the dance-scene are poly-substance users, with associated elevated health risks. A smartphone app was developed to collect detailed data on substance use, mood and functioning, during a five-week Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) study. The EMA allows the assessment of detailed short-term temporal patterns of substance intake as well as consequences. 285 ecstasy users in the Netherlands and UK participated in this study. In this presentation we will focus on the execution of the EMA study itself and share the lessons learned. We will also present findings regarding substance use patterns in a single (dance) night.
