Abstract

This presentation will provide the first European overview of NPS prevalence in the general and school populations. MCDDA developed a standard module on NPS use, implemented in EU national surveys, the European school project ESPAD, and the EU websurvey on drugs.

In 2018 and 2019, EMCDDA collated results from European national surveys. Prevalence reported with the “general NPS question” is relatively low, although in similar levels to cocaine or amphetamines. However this general question is likely to be over-inclusive. The European ESPAD school survey project included, for the first time, the same module in 2015 (96.000 students 15/16 years olds from 35 European countries). The average last 12 months prevalence of NPS was 3%, with 17 countries reporting 2% or lower
