Abstract

Every year, thousands of dependant drug users are imprisoned in Lithuania, many of whom have a history of previous drug overdose, which is a known risk factor for fatal overdose. This study aimed to estimate the risk of fatal overdose after prison release among drug users in Lithuania over the period 2016-2017. A linkage study was conducted between national mortality database and registry of convinced persons. Within 6 months after prison release, more than 120 deaths were identified. Age, gender, location, time, causes of deaths and mortality risk are presented and discussed along suggested responses.
