Illicit opioid use and opioid use disorder is a global problem with estimates of 2-5 million persons affected with OUD in the United States (US) and approximately 1.3 million people with “problem opioid use” in the European Union according to the European Drug Report Trends and Developments 2015 (1-4). While there are effective medication OUD treatments approved for use in Europe, their availability varies by country, and unfortunately, the majority of persons with OUD are not receiving medication treatments (in Europe and US).

This workshop uses a didactic structure with heavy reliance on patient vignettes with questions to the audience throughout to ensure that they are interacting and that we are learning from one another. The content and speaker order follow below.
