About

Since 2008, Zaved is working at the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva. Currently, he advises on drug policy and human rights. He has been representing the Office at the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs in Vienna since 2017. From 2008 until 2017, Zaved was the advisor on the abolition of the death penalty; and also advised on commissions of inquiry, witness and victim protection and other accountability related issues. Previously, from 1993 until 2007, he worked with UN Peace Keeping Missions in Sudan and Afghanistan; UNICEF Innocenti Research Centre in Florence, Italy; and national and international human rights NGOs in Bangladesh and USA. He was the founder of the Asian Network on the International Criminal Court. Zaved studied law, human rights, international politics and Italian renaissance art history in Bangladesh, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Austria and Italy. He is a fellow of the Advocacy Institute of USA. He is a member of the United Nation LGBT organisation- UN Globe and married to the English novelist Philip Hensher.
