Thursday, 24 November, 2022 - 10:50 to 12:20

Abstract

Withing Direct Access network of OKANA, the Direct Access Substitution Unit (MYAP) receives referrals from services such as Street work, the Hostel for homeless drug users of Athens, DCRs and other points from the field seeking treatment. MYAP is the first point of drug users’ transition and integration to the therapeutic models and services provided by OKANA, such as OST treatment, biopsychosocial support and guidance ending to social reintegration.

Through the operation of MYAP it has become possible to absorb the waiting list for OST in Athens. In MYAP the patients are commenced on substitution medication and a first assessment is made addressing their basic needs (psychiatric, medical, social and legal issues). From MYAP the patients are referred to the network of the Integrated Addiction Treatment Units of OKANA in Athens (22 Units), where substitution therapy is provided based on a biopsychosocial model of treating addiction with the aim of providing comprehensive treatment and social reintegration for as many of them as possible.

Data from MYAP will be presented and the importance of providing primary health care to drug users and connecting them to OST treatment. MYAP plays a key role in getting drug users into treatment.

The importance of MYAP is indicated as well as its role in completing the direct access network.
