Digital technologies to prevent drug overdoses. A UK perspective
Abstract
New technologies to prevent drug overdoses are arising. There is still a lot of uncertainty around them at these very early stages of development. However, there is great potential for saving lives. We will present and discuss work on emerging digital technologies to prevent drug overdoses, their acceptability and potential for implementation. Special focus will be on developments in the United Kingdom, where drug related deaths have reached critical levels and where interest and research on these technologies is quickly growing. We will focus on overdose alert and response technologies (ODART), which heavily rely on sensors and mobile phone applications and on the timely administration of naloxone.
