This symposium focuses on the association between alcohol and substance use with mental health, answering the following questions: 1) What are the associations between alcohol and substance use with mental health using UK observational data? 2) How do these associations differ in specific subgroups, for example, by socioeconomic status or ethnicity? 3) How does mental health change if someone stops using a substance? 4) How is change in the pharmacological content of a substance associated with mental health symptoms?
