Impact of Adherence to the Opioid Substitution Program on Social Determinants of Health in the West Zone of Porto
Abstract
This study evaluates the impact of adherence to the Opioid Substitution Program (PSO) on the health determinants and social determinants of health of opioid drug users in the West Zone of the City of Porto. The sample will consist of around 100 opiate drug users who were integrated into the PSO in each of the Risk Reduction and Harm Reduction (RRMD) structures in the CRI Porto Oeste intervention area, on the cut-off date. The data will be collected through a survey carried out by technicians from the CRI Porto Oeste Street Teams.
The study aims to explore whether adherence to the PSO has an impact on the health determinants of opioid drug users.
As examples, we will evaluate whether participants showed a significant reduction in the frequency of substance use, changes in the route of administration used, risky practices and health status.
Specifically, the study will also take into account the poor conditions of the ecosystem where the participants live and whether it undergoes significant changes with membership of the PSO.
This study aims to support the integration of PSO into public health strategies for the prevention and treatment of drug dependence. It is also important to develop public policies that promote social inclusion and improve the living conditions of opioid drug users, to ensure even more positive results from PSO.
