Navigating Open Science in the Addiction Field: A Practical Workshop

Wednesday, 23 October, 2024 - 09:00 to 18:20

Background: This hands-on workshop on open science aims to equip participants with the knowledge and practical skills to conduct addiction research in a transparent, reproducible and collaborative manner.

Method: The session will begin with a brief overview of the principles and importance of open science in fostering reproducibility and transparency in the addiction field. Next, delegates will be introduced to practical strategies they can use to support the start or continuation of their open science journey. The focus will be on  the integration of practices into existing workflows and the identification of easily implementable strategies. Attendees will actively engage in exercises designed to enhance their understanding and adoption of relevant tools (e.g., OSF; reproducible manuscripts in Quarto). Common barriers hindering the adoption of open science practices (e.g., time and resource constraints) will be discussed and solutions outlined.

Results: By the end of the session, participants will have gained a solid understanding of open science principles as they relate to the addiction field, acquired hands-on experience with applicable tools, and developed a roadmap for overcoming challenges associated with integrating open science practices into their research practice.

Conclusion: This workshop aims to empower addiction researchers to contribute to a more open, collaborative, and impactful scientific community.
