Psychosocial Care

Thursday, 24 October, 2024 - 15:00 to 16:30

Medically supported interventions provided by the ACCS are embedded within a wider psychosocial framework that attends to both acute needs and recovery-based work. A combination of work delivered by psychology staff, peer-based organisations such as Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), support workers and nurses specialising in addictions group work and individual care are provided across the inpatient stay. Aspiring to develop a psychologically informed environment that is also trauma informed, clinical activities are coordinated to ensure that patients receive a range of bespoke interventions. Extended inpatient stays within the hospital setting affords opportunity for assessment, formulation and early treatment around concerns highlighted by patients including cognitive impairment from suspected alcohol related brain damage (ARBD) as well as a range of comorbid psychiatric conditions.
