Substance Use in the Organisational Culture... The Maltese Context
The aim of the study is to observe whether there is a relationship between the organisational culture and substance use of employees in the Maltese Islands. It will delve into the interrelation between the work industry and the drug of choice, as well as the relationship between the perceived health and safety risks, and substance use amongst employees. This is due to the fact that various literature highlights particular work industries as possible indicators towards a higher use of substances when compared to other work industries. This study will explore the organisational culture, ethos and work practices that might effect such work industries in relation to substance use. Moreover this study shall explore whether the organisational culture is an enabler or an inhibitor influence towards substance use. This study will elicit the workplace ethic fostered by management and how this is being implemented within work sectors. Furthermore, this study shall promote further the notion of having a structured workplace policy with regards to substance use and gambling. Moreover this study shall highlight the willingness of management towards implementing such policies. This policy can further help both the employers and employees gain knowledge about such a sensitive subject which will support in counteracting negative social stigma.
Methodology:
The way this study will be achieved is through a quantitative study. A dissemination of surveys will be shared across various companies where their employees (even those who are in a management role) will fill out these surveys with regards to the above subject. From these surveys the data will be gathered and analysed which will help to identify whether there is a relationship between work industry and possible substance use.
