About

The session explores innovative approaches to addressing mental health and substance use disorders, particularly among marginalized and vulnerable populations. It includes the results of a systematic scoping review on the potential of telecare to provide culturally and linguistically appropriate mental health and addiction services, emphasizing community involvement and the development of culturally safe care standards. Another study examines the implementation and operational characteristics of Drug Consumption Rooms (DCRs) in Europe, focusing on their role in reducing substance use harms and the factors that enhance their effectiveness. A third presentation investigates the role of physical activity in the treatment of substance use disorders, revealing that it can help reduce cravings, prevent relapse, and promote healthy lifestyle habits. The fourth contribution discusses the use of a text-message intervention based on cognitive behavioural therapy for individuals with opioid use disorder in Kenya, highlighting participants’ positive feedback and the skills gained to manage substance use patterns.
