In recent years, the role of prescribed medications in drug-related harms has gained attention, particularly due to the role prescription opioids played in the early stages of the overdose crisis in the USA. This session brings together studies on the use and potential misuse of prescribed medications, non-prescribed opioids, and cannabis. Topics include patient and physician perspectives on opioid treatment after severe injury, the risks and consequences of prescribed psychoactive medicines, the relationship between socioeconomic status and long-term opioid use, and behavioural patterns of opioid and cannabis use in chronic pain patients.
