Edward Chesney works as a psychiatrist at the Maudsley Hospital and as a clinical lecturer at the Department of Addictions, King’s College London. He is interested in developing novel pharmacological interventions for individuals with severe mental illness and co-morbid substance use disorders, particularly those with cannabis or opiate use disorder. He has helped develop laboratory models of cannabis-induced psychosis and opiate-induced respiratory depression in patient populations. He also works on several clinical trials of cannabidiol for people with early psychosis and pharmacokinetic studies of naloxone and cannabidiol formulations.
