About

Dr. Verthein is working as senior researcher and lecturer at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Addiction Research of Hamburg University (ZIS). He is experienced at working in an international dimension being member of research projects such as Twinning (Cyprus, Turkey, Serbia) or European and transnational studies on harm reduction activities (consumption rooms, ESTHER Partnership ZIS-Kathmandu Teaching Hospital). Dr. Verthein was responsible for design, data management and analyses of the German Heroin Trial. Furthermore, he was involved in studies on prescription drugs (esp. benzodiazepine/Z drugs, medicinal cannabis) and evaluation and monitoring projects on outpatient addiction treatment and rehabilitation. His research interests are directed towards treatment evaluation, (effects of) harm reduction activities as well as (evaluation of) cannabis regulation models. He was the PI of the European projects on Understanding Pathways to Stimulant Use (ATTUNE) and Implementing Methamphetamine Prevention Strategies into Action (IMPRESA).
