This session addresses the issue of drug use in prisons, focusing on the prevalence, patterns, and treatment needs of incarcerated individuals. Studies highlight the high rates of drug use both before and during incarceration, with particular attention to factors contributing to continued use or initiation of drug use while in prison. The session explores substance use disorders, the availability and effectiveness of treatment programmes, and the association between drug use in prison and adverse outcomes such as mental health challenges and victimisation.
