About

Ana Isabel Silva Tavares, PhD, is a Clinical Psychologist specializing in Clinical and Health Psychology, with a focus on substance use, abuse, and addiction. She completed her PhD at the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences, University of Porto, focusing on substance use prevention among adolescents.

Her career began in 1996, gaining valuable experience in various settings, including clinical and educational psychology roles at public and private institutions. From 1998 to 2012, she worked at the Institute for Drugs and Drug Addiction (IDT), where she specialized in psychodiagnosis, psychotherapy, and psychological counseling. Her work during this period involved the prevention and treatment of substance use disorders. In addition to clinical work, and also as coordenator of Technical Assistance Center of the northern delegation of IDT, she played a role in the development and implementation of public health initiatives aimed at the prevention of addictive behaviors. She collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams to design, execute and monitoring/evaluate evidence-based programs that target at-risk populations, integrating psychological services with broader public health strategies.

Since 2013, she has worked as a Clinical Psychologist at the Regional Health Administration of the North in Portugal, within the Division of Intervention in Addictive Behaviors and Dependencies (DICAD), where she is involved in psychological assessment, psychotherapy, and prevention programs. Since 2022, she has coordinated the Luso-Galician Addiction Research Group (GLIA), leading research projects and training programs. She is a member of the Portuguese Society of Clinical Psychology and has some scientific publications on addiction and mental health.
