About

Carla Ferreira has a Bachelor´s degree in Forensic and Criminal Sciences from the Egas Moniz School of Health and Science and a master's degree in Biomedical Sciences from the NOVA Institute of Hygiene and Topical Medicine. Since graduating, she has carried out scientific research at the Egas Moniz Center for Interdisciplinary Research in forensic chemistry and toxicology. She subsequently completed, in 2022, her PhD in Forensic Sciences at the University of Porto. The PhD focused on the identification and characterization of synthetic cannabinoids and cathinones, followed by the study of their impact on the onset of Parkinson's Disease, using yeast as a model. Until 2022, she was also an expert in the Forensic Chemistry and Toxicology Office of the Egas Moniz Laboratory of Forensic and Psychological Sciences and a teacher in the Bachelor's degree in Forensic and Criminal Sciences and Master's in Forensic Laboratory Technologies at the Egas Moniz School of Health and Science. Finally, in November 2022 she enrolled in the Drugs and Toxicology Sector of the Scientific Police Laboratory of the Portuguese Judiciary Police, as a scientific police specialist.
