About
Dr. Eef Theunissen obtained her PhD in psychopharmacology on the sedating and stimulating effects of antihistamines. Her Ph.D. research included studies into the sedating effects of antihistamines on driving and cognitive performance. During her time as a post-doc at the University Maastricht, she studied the effects of a high dose of cannabis on cognitive performance in occasional and daily cannabis users. Since 2007, Eef works as an assistant professor at the Faculty of Psychology of the University of Maastricht and has been involved in several studies determining the effects of medicinal drugs and drugs of abuse on driving performance, cognition and subjective experiences. She has co-supervised many Ph.D. students within the experimental psychopharmacology unit, working e.g. on projects with psychedelics and novel psychoactive substances. Recently, she finished a series of first-in-man studies with a synthetic cannabinoid detected in herbal smoking mixtures such as Spice.
