Livia Andrani is a PhD candidate at the School of Criminal Justice, University of Lausanne, Switzerland. With a background in forensic science and chemical criminalistics, her doctoral research explores the value of wastewater-based epidemiology in monitoring illicit drug consumption and supporting public health decisions and policies. She is currently working on a project commissioned by the Swiss Federal Office of Public Health aimed at monitoring illicit drugs, alcohol, tobacco, and pharmaceuticals in wastewater nationwide and providing an updated status reports on their consumption in Switzerland. Additionally, Livia is involved in an interdisciplinary project in the Swiss canton of Vaud seeking to understand and monitor the local illicit drug market. This project brings together experts from public health, harm reduction, medicine, law enforcement, social work, and forensic science.
