About

Richard is a retired Consultant Clinical Psychologist who spent most of his career working in Addiction services establishing a Community Team in Cardiff, South Wales. He has research interests in amphetamine use, injecting and particularly in needle fixation (compulsive injecting). He has published about 40 papers on issues of substance use and edited 4 books on the subject. In recent years he has been working with troubled children and is co editing a book on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). He has been the Editor of the Journal of Substance Use for over 25 years and is a visiting professor of Psychology at the University of Worcester in the UK and at Charles University in Prague, Czechia. Richard has been teaching young postgraduates and other professionals all over the world on writing for publication.

He has been a member of the Programme Committee for the Lisbon conference since its inception in 2015 and regularly runs workshops at the conference. He was a founding member and former president of ISAJE
