Dr Adrian Dunlop MBBS PhD GdipEpiBiostat FAChAM FISAM CF (https://www.newcastle.edu.au/profile/a-dunlop) is Director and Senior Staff Specialist for Hunter New England Local Health District Drug & Alcohol Clinical Services and Conjoint Professor, School of Medicine and Public Health, Faculty of Health, University of Newcastle and Honorary Medical Officer, Addiction Medicine, Justice Health and Forensic Mental Health Network. He was the Chief Addiction Medicine Specialist, Mental Health Drug & Alcohol Office, NSW Health (2014-2018) and Clinical Advisor (2012-13) responsible for policy advice in drug and alcohol to the NSW Ministry of Health.

He is a Foundation Fellow of the Australasian Chapter of Addiction Medicine (FAChAM) and current state branch chair (NSW & ACT) of the Chapter Committee, Royal Australasian College of Physicians, Past-President of the Australasian Professional Society on Alcohol and other Drugs (APSAD), member of the College of Problems on Drug Dependence (USA), Society for the Study of Addiction (UK), and Fellow of the International Society for Addiction Medicine (FISAM). In 2005 he was awarded a Churchill Fellowship to investigate the treatment of opiate dependence in pregnancy. In 2010 he was awarded Clinical Leader of the Year by Hunter New England Health. In 2014 he was awarded the APSAD clinician award for excellence in Science, research and practice in the drug and alcohol field and was a 2015 James Rankin orator for APSAD.

He has 25 years-experience in the drug and alcohol field, over 225 publications including 100 peer reviewed journal articles, 9 book chapters, a co-author on 9 Australian guidelines on addiction management, including current Clinical Guidelines for the Use of Depot Buprenorphine (Buvidal® and Sublocade®) in the treatment of opioid dependence, funded by NSW Health.

He has been an investigator in 45 research grants including over $A30 million in competitive research funding including 12 NHMRC funded grants (9 as CI) and one ARC grant. CI Dunlop collaborates with various drug and alcohol clinical research groups and clinical sites state across NSW and Australia and is a foundation member of the NSW Drug and Alcohol Clinical Research Network, a collaboration of NSW public sector D&A Services engaged in clinical research.
