Abstract

In ALSPAC, women are more likely than men to report anxiety, fear-based anxieties and depression. These aspects of internalising were associated with alcohol abuse and alcohol dependence in late adolescence but in early adulthood, only alcohol abuse was associated with all internalising symptoms. This talk would involve a discussion around these descriptive findings and particularly: which internalising symptoms associated with alcohol misuse and dependence and further, what might be influencing or confounding the relationship between internalising symptoms and alcohol phenotypes in the late adolescent group (mean age 18 years) compared with early adult group (mean age 24 years).
