Dra. M Mercè Balcells-Olivero is a medical doctor trained as a psychiatrist in the University of Barcelona (Spain). She was entitled with a predoctoral grant and worked for 2 years in the Department of Pharmacological and Physiological Sciences in the University of Chicago with Dr. Lewis S. Seiden. She obtained her Phd in 1999 with her work on treatment resistance depression and serotoninergic dysfunction (“stock differences between rats on an antidepressant screen and 8-0h-dpat hypothermia”). Since then she has worked in the addiction field in both clinical and basic research. She is currently working in the addiction Unit from the Psychiatry Department of the Neurosciences Institute (ICN) Hospital Clinic of Barcelona. Her latest work has been base on THC addiction in clinical and basic science where she has several publications in peer reviewed journals.
