About

Professionals with lived or living experience of drug use and addiction play an essential role in developing, shaping and delivering addiction services and care. Building on co-creation activities with a group of diverse peer workers representing different areas of addiction work (e.g., nightlife, incarcerated populations, minority groups, gendered issues), WAVE will run a 'back-casting' foresight workshop, focussing on how systems and organisations can strengthen peer-support roles. The workshop is lead by peer-worker experts, with the aim of identifying priority milestones, and developing strategies and recommendations to guide workforce development and ensure dignified work conditions and support for this group of workers in addiction fields.
A back-casting exercise (BCE) is a foresight method to develop a plan, working backwards from an ideal future scenario. Workshop participants will ‘back-cast’ from an ideal 2035 scenario, where diverse peer-worker profiles are recognised, valued, and optimally skilled and supported to provide prevention, harm reduction, treatment and reintegration care.
Note: Limited spaces are available in this workshop. Please arrive at the designated room early (at least 5 minutes before the session begins) to secure your place.
