Jørgen G. Bramness is a professor of psychiatry at UiT – The Arctic University of Norway in Tromsø, a senior researcher at Oslo University Hospital, the Norwegian Institute of Public Health, and the Norwegian National Competence Center for Concurrent Substance Abuse and Mental Health Disorders. He is the first vice president of the European Federation for Addiction Societies. He has published more than 240 peer-reviewed scientific articles in international journals and over 20 books and book chapters on substance use and addiction. His research areas include psychiatry, epidemiology, psychopharmacology, pharmacoepidemiology, substance use, and more recently, alcohol use and its somatic consequences, with a particular focus on patients who have undergone bariatric surgery and the significance of presystemic alcohol metabolism.
