About

Who is a typical addiction specialist of the 21st century? What are the core competencies we seek when looking for evidence-based and professional care? What types of education can we expect from a professional to have? What higher education designs are applied to meet the needs of today’s addiction issues?

This workshop aims to answer these key questions in an interactive and personally designed form. Briefly an overview of the newest key papers will be presented with focus on:

  • Epidemiology – profiling addiction academic education worldwide,
  • Typology – types of programs and categorization process,
  • Global Education Standards – addiction education standards and competency designs,
  • Good practice examples - education models from different parts of the world.

The core of the workshop is to lead the attendees to an image of an addiction professional and to practice applying the key components of evidence-based addiction education in their context and environment. We will share and discuss our personal experiences and needs in small group settings (for example related to minimum requirements for addiction workforce or use of competencies in clinical practice).

Are you a higher education manager? A member of an addiction care institution? Or an addiction professional working in the field? This workshop can serve anybody who is interested in building well educated and professional addiction workforce.

The basis of the workshop is built on academic research of Charles University and research outputs of the project WAVE (Workforce in Addictions·Valorisation in Europe. Project nr. 101045870 JUST-2020-AG-DRUGS, https://wave-addictionsworkforce.eu/).
