Abstract

Scientific literature covering prison health is generally quite limited. Lack of research activities in prison settings may be the results of several factors. We reviewed available evidence on interventions targeting people who use drugs in prison to identify effective options to be implemented in this setting and research gaps to be addressed. Current challenges such as increasing use of new psychoactive substances in prison settings, demographic changes of the prison population and prison health governance may require additional and well-designed research studies.
