Public health dimensions of psychoactive drugs and addictive behaviours in WHO activities and products

WHO is in the process of preparing the second edition of the 2016 publication “The health and social effects of non-medical cannabis use”, and the session will highlight the main findings of recent research on the health effects of cannabis use.  In 2022 WHO released the updated “Consolidated guidelines for HIV, viral hepatitis and STI prevention, diagnosis and treatment for key populations”, and the session will draw attention to new elements and messages included in the guidelines, with a focus on people who use drugs. The session with conclude with a presentation on the Service Capacity Index for Substance Use Disorders (SCI-SUD), a new approach developed by WHO for international monitoring of treatment capacity for substance use disorders.
