5. Social determinants, health service contacts and incarceration among all those dying from an accidental overdose 2010-2018 in Norway

Previous studies have shown that incarcerations are common among people who use drugs (PWUD). PWUD who are incarcerated have an elevated risk of death, and they are therefore a particularly vulnerable at-risk PWUD subpopulation. More knowledge is needed regarding this subpopulation to design and implement interventions to reduce their high mortality risk. In this study, we examine potential risk factors associated with past year incarcerations among all those dying of an accidental overdose between 2010 and 2018 in Norway.
