5. Flora Dora' and prostitution area team: outreach social work for sexworkers and low-threshold counselling on the spot

Thursday, 24 November, 2022 - 10:50 to 12:20

Abstract

Outreach work in Protection and Prevention focuses on going into clients' social spaces and working with them on the spot. At the same time, shelter is offered and appointments are made to enable further consultations. The clients determine the topics we deal with. Flora Dora and a team that runs a place where sex workers can practice their work in a protected way deal with the topic of sex work.

Through trust work and relationship building, we can approach the clients with our services and support them. They often lack knowledge about their rights and obligations, and even about what the city of Zurich has to offer. We can intervene in a targeted manner and empower them to make the most of their opportunities. Access is low-threshold and voluntary, but regular and reliable.

Counseling that is non-stigmatizing, morally non-judgmental, and has an open outcome makes clients feel accepted and allows them to address their concerns openly. This is how Flora Dora works. The people we work with are constantly changing. Services that seek out their clients and deliberately work at a low-threshold level must be well networked with each other and constantly adapt to the current needs of the clients.

How can the city of Zurich maintain the standard it has developed and shape its offerings to meet the needs of its clients well into the future?
