1. Development and implementation of an environmental prevention intervention at local level
Abstract
Applying systematic planning to the development and implementation of an environmental prevention intervention targeting underage adolescents’ alcohol use is a challenge. Moreover, particularly in environmental interventions, involvement of stakeholders is highly relevant yet challenging. Implementation of an environmental intervention targeting adolescents’ alcohol use at local level is discussed.
A quasi-experimental design including a participatory research process has been applied to investigate the impact of the environmental prevention intervention (LEF) on (intermediate) outcomes. A description of the systematic planning of an environmental intervention where a participatory research process is applied is provided.
It is a challenge to implement an environmental intervention at local level when a participatory approach is applied. Yet, this also brings along several benefits such as changes in social norms.
Discussion will be about the transfer of an environmental intervention from a (inter)national to a local level applying a participatory approach; its challenges and benefits.
