5. An inspiring practice example of Quality Standards implementation: the Spanish Good Practice inDemand Reduction Portal (PBBPP)

Wednesday, 23 November, 2022 - 15:00 to 16:30

Abstract

Numerous prevention actions regarding drug addiction have been developed in Spain. Evaluation is essential to ensure economic resources are well invested and international quality standards (QS) in drug demand reduction claim to stimulate both transferability and dissemination of evidence-base practices. The Spanish Good Practice in Demand Reduction Portal (PBBPP) represents this idea quite well. This oral communication aims to exemplify a good practice in the implementation of QS in Spain. It also aims to describe the PBBPP’ objectives, main activities and resources. Quality criteria and evaluation systems for a study to be included in PBBPP will be presented as well.

In the context of the FENIQS-EU project, several case studies representing examples of QS implemention were examined across the European Union. Using an ad-hoc assessment tool (six Likert-type items), the PBBPP initiative reached the highest score in the drug use prevention area. We examined PBBPP’ evidence on its certification system, quality of methods/tools/procedures, quality of the delivery context and workforce involved in the evaluation of the prevention practices.

PBBPP is a collaborative platform between the Government Delegation of the National Plan on Drugs, the autonomous community of Murcia and other relevant institutions at the local and international levels. Based on the European Drug Prevention Quality Standards and Xchange criteria, it features programs/actions in the prevention area (amongst others) while offering resources for facilitating the use of QS, transferability, and dissemination of inspiring practices.

The PBBPP is a sustainable activity with important value for different agents, including academics, implementers and decision/makers.
