Thursday, 24 November, 2022 - 13:20 to 14:50

Abstract

There are roughly 3.1 million people who inject drugs in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, and another 3-5 million in PR China. The region is home to roughly one in four people who inject drugs worldwide. Despite significant progresses in many areas - as implementation of case management, depending on the needs of the key groups and their specific needs, social support programs to improve the quality of life of the customers or provision of social services and humanitarian aid – social work in the field of support of people who use drugs is still underdeveloped, This will be demonstrated and discussed with examples from PR China and the Kyrgyz Republic. Social Work development in Germany serves as model of improvements in the fied of service provision and harm reduction.
