About
People living in prisons are often denied basic medical care that is generally available to people in the community. Harm reduction interventions available in the community are often unavailable or very restricted in prison settings. The session will provide an international picture of the issue, presents recent evidences from European countries, the Kyrgyz Republic and Kazakhstan and discusses in detail specific interventions: medication aassisted treatment, needle exchange programs, condom programs to reduce sexually transmitted infectious diseases, and finally take-home naloxone programs to reduce mortality risks due to overdoses after release from prison.
